CURRENT ANNUAL BUDGET
With $20,000, we provide medical services for about 2,500 persons living in the 14 communities nearest to the health post, that is medical care for only $8 /person /year.
SUSTAINABILITY IS ACHIEVED BY EDUCATION
To meet the educational and organizational needs of these villages, we need PEER EDUCATORS trained by PACin every community. Salaries for Peruvian peer educators are about $100/month or $1,200/year X 14 communities or $16,800 annually plus expenses for their training & monitoring by the health post administrator and the nurse. Just to meet our medical, educational and organizational commitments in the surrounding communities, PAC requires a MINIMUM ANNUAL BUDGET of $40,000.
To enable expansion of existing programs and development of essential new programs, including community midwife education, barter-and-exchange (produce-for-fish) and flood-proof raised gardens, we need to maintain a TOTAL ANNUAL BUDGET of $100,000.
How can we do so much with so little?
Although we address all the problems of each community at every level, we help the people to help themselves; we don't do it for them. We pay fair but modest salaries to Peruvian workers, but citizens and residents of the USA are all unpaid volunteers. Through various organization in Peru and in the USA, we obtain most of the medicines for the health post for free or for less than 20% of retail cost.
Most materials and supplies can purchased for less in Peru, supplementing the local economy and avoiding excess airline baggage charges.
